This article questions what happened and why elearning has failed to take off identifying several false assumptions:

- if we have it - they will come
- digital natives will use it
- it will act as a change agent for learning

Virtual Learning Environments in Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism – A Review states that of the 10 universities participating few had undertaken reviews of staff. UWB survey

UWB survey of blackboard use shows some basic statistics but does not give any background to how it was surveyed.

Napier university - VLE use

Survey of VLE use at Napier university highlighted the types of componenets that elearning can take on webct and how it might be being used as simply a communication / publishing tool for course materials.

While I may be looking at barriers to use of webct/elearning there is a further research question on the 'pedagogical' effectiveness of the existing learning within webct. Converting materials for use on webct does not necessarily mean that the learning becomes more efective.
